(Abasa) 80 : 17
قُتِلَ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ

The man who hid It has been killed.

Anyone from mankind who hides Adhikr after receiving It has been killed; that is, he has only life and has no soul—he is in the condition of sleep, as told in verses 6: 60 and 39: 42. It is told in verse 2: 99 that none will hide Adhikr except the transgressors; and in verse 9: 67 it is told that the Hypocrites—they are the transgressors; and verse 46: 35 ends with a question: will anyone be destroyed except a transgressing people? Since Allah has killed the Hypocrites—who are the enemies of Allah and the believers—it is not possible to remind them with Adhikr. Since they are cursed by all creatures, they will go to the bottom of Hell even without trial, as explained in verse 4: 145. See explanation 33: 60-61; 51: 10-14; and 63: 4.
